Since the 17th century, Dutch silversmiths have crafted miniature objects, tiny houses, windmills, ships, and furniture, as displays of pure skill. Originally made by apprentices to prove their mastery, these small silver works became prized collectibles, often gathered into cabinet displays known as “silver rooms.” Schoonhoven became especially famous for this exacting tradition, where every hinge and detail had to be perfect in miniature, producing keepsakes that captured everyday Dutch life in gleaming, pocket sized silver.
